At some stage along the way in this project (probably 2009), and after scanning many photos, newspaper cuttings and posters supplied by various people for the project, I came to the realisation that many of the early performers at Traynor's had never been properly acknowledged  for their role in the origins of the National Folk Festival.

It seemed to me that the best way to do this might be to apply to stage a concert at the NFF featuring as many as possible of the performers from the original Port Philip Folk Festivals, held in Melbourne in 1967 and 1968. These festivals are now acknowledged as the originating festivals to what is now known as the National Folk Festival.

An outcome that I didn't expect was for Bruce McNicoll to hand me 3 old reels of tape - they are the only known recordings of the 1968 Port Phillip Folk Festival, and were apparently Graeme Squance's copy. I have since transferred them into digital format and cleaned them up as best I can given their condition.

Between us, myself, David Lumsden, Ken White, Paul Tarrant and Margret RoadKnight have identified both most of the performers and the songs or tunes performed. Eventually, they will be made available on this site.

It now turns out that Glen Foster has a copy of the same tapes, possibly in better condition.
